I've learned that you should always leave loved ones with loving words, it may be the last time you see them.

Sweet Layla Grace... Please say a prayer for Layla and Her Family

LAYLA GRACE

Layla has always been a healthy child, 80th percentile for weight, a great eater, a great sleeper. She is sweet as pie and a little cuddle monkey (she won’t let you put her down!). She has a very advanced vocab for her age which really helps us manage her pain and give her what she needs as her care continues.

Layla had a great 15 month checkup. At around 16 months her sleep habits and appetite started to change and she started to become more irritable. Mid March appetite began to decrease. At the time we thought we were dealing with a “picky eater”. Beginning of May Layla woke up one morning with a swollen eye. We took her to the doctor and she was treated for an ear infection and the doctor said the swelling was just a result of the ear infection. At the same time we noted that her belly was hard and somewhat distended. She had not had a bowel movement for a few days and we were concerned that she was becoming constipated.

The next day we took her to the pediatrician who put her on Mirilax over the weekend and told us to call back Monday. By Monday morning she was not eating at all, still no dirty diaper, her activity level had decreased and was rubbing her belly and lower back and saying “owie”.

Our pediatrician referred us to a GI specialist to see why she was so constipated and wasn’t eating. On Thursday May 7th as we sat in GI specialists office expecting to be told that Layla would need some kind of treatment for constipation we instead hear words like “Cancer” and “Leukemia”. A series of X-rays and tests were ordered and we were sent home to wait on the results.

That evening about five minutes after we walked in the door we got an urgent call from the GI specialist telling us that the test results were in, that things were not good and that we were to bring Layla into the ER immediately and that a team of doctors would be waiting for us.

Layla has a massive cancerous tumor (Stage 4 Neuroblastoma) in her abdomen. It extends from above her left kidney, around her side, over her belly and wraps around her aorta. In addition, the cancer is in her bone marrow.

Our sweet Layla went from normal happy and healthy to lethargic, in pain, and skin and bones in a matter of a week and a half.

Beauty Pageants Dropping In Popularity?

LINWOOD, N.J., Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The annual Miss America pageant is dropping in popularity and TV ratings and participants blame the changing cultural tide in the United States.

Entertainment Weekly online reported the 2009 Miss American pageant only drew 3.5 million viewers, down from the 26.7 million who watched the event in 1991. Actor Mario Lopez, who is hosting this year's pageant Saturday night, blames the atrophy on an abundance of beautiful women in other arenas.

Current Miss America Katie Stam, 23, laments the pageant's low ratings.

"We had the most amazing connection with the pageant. It was such a big deal to us," Stam said of her childhood experiences watching the beauty pageant.

Our Hearts Go Out To Haiti

We have all been shocked and saddened by the calamitous earthquake that has devastated Haiti. Our hearts, prayers and best wishes go out to the people of Haiti and to their friends and family around the world. I'm sure that like me, you feel so heartbroken and helpless in face of the suffering of the Haitian people. Every part of Port-au-Prince was either damaged or destroyed by the quake. Homes, schools, hospitals, even the National Palace where the president resides, were all decimated. Injured children that lost contact with their parents are taking refuge in collapsed buildings and under debris. Haiti’s infrastructure is already very modest and has now been brought to its knees by the quake. Disease, hunger and lawlessness are taking their toll on the people. Nothing will bring back those who have perished, but the survivors need our help. That's why I've decided to donate 10% of of the proceeds from all of our sales for the next month at Love baby J to the Red Cross International Response Fund. The Red Cross has been helping those in need since 1881 and they have already pledged an initial 1 million towards Haiti Relief... let's help them give more.

What A Year I've Had!

So as I sit here in my few moments of silence, between my three year snuggling up for his 2 hour nap, and my two other handsome sons about to arrive home, I am trying to take some time to reflect on the things I did well and was successful at this year, and the things I may need to work on just a little. Yes... That was a giant run on sentence! Anyway, over the past year I have gone through quite a few changes in my life. Moving our family across the country, starting my own dream business, taking care of three little boys, blogging, tweeting, texting, facebooking, designing, and somehow trying to be a good wife... all at the same time. I have realized that... Laundry can wait, dishes can sit, toys can be picked up later, and I just can't possibly work and make everyone happy 24 hours a day. What truly matters are the little moments that we somehow overlook in the craziness we call life. The smell of the clean ocean air, the innocence of our children's faces as they go round and round on the merry-go-round and manage to waive to mommy and daddy with a smile every time around. The smell of dinner cooking, and the family sitting down together to eat. Oh, and lets not forget the few quiet moments each night when you go in and check on your sleeping children before you go to bed. I guess that sometimes we get so caught up in the craziness of the moment, work, cleaning, being a mommy, and running a business, that we tend to overlook or underappreciate the things that really matter.

Ok... My times up! Sorry for the rambling. All in all, it's been a great year. I couldn’t possibly tell you all that I’ve learned in this one post, so over the next few weeks I am hoping to post more about the goals I have set for myself for this year. I thank all of you that have taken the time to read my posts and visit my site.

Princess Party Craft Ideas

Tiaras
Option 1: Have construction paper, scissors, glitter, peel-and-stick gems and other fancy decorations, glue and tape on a table. The children can cut tiaras or crown shapes out of the construction paper and tape them to fit their heads. Depending on the age of the children, they may need to tape two pieces together to go all the way around. They can then decorate the tiaras.
Option 2: Get foam tiaras from a craft store and have the children decorate them with peel-and-stick gems and stickers.

Fairy-Godmother Wand
Option 1: Cut star and heart shapes out poster board or other stiff paper in advance. Cut two openings toward the bottom to slide a straw through. The children can decorate these with glitter glue, sequins and crayons.
Option 2: Buy a foam kit from a craft store and let them decorate those.
Option 3: In advance, cut star and heart shapes out of light-colored felt. Sew two pieces together and stuff them with batt. Attach a stick. On the day of the party the kids can decorate with fabric markers and glitter.
Necklaces and Bracelets
Have small buckets of beads on a table for the children to use to make bracelets and necklaces. You can give them lengths of fishing line, pipe cleaners, yarn or string to thread the beads onto by hand. You can then tie the ends or have barrel clasps available. Be sure to get bead sizes that are age-appropriate. For instance, pony beads are easier for younger children to handle.

Flowers
Have a selection of tissue paper cut into strips six to eight inches wide by ten inches long and green pipe cleaners available to make flowers. Have the kids take four sheets of tissue paper and one pipe cleaner each. Have them fold the tissue paper in an accordion fashion and then tie the pipe cleaner around the middle of the folded paper. They can then gently pull up the tissue paper to form the petals.

I seriously about fell off my chair when I saw these pictures .. aren't they just about the most adorable thing you've ever seen! :) I absolutely fell in Love when I saw these little newborn cocoons. Where were these when my little guy's were born? Just looking at those sweet little babies.... the innocence, the sweet baby smell, the snuggles, the soft skin and tiny toes. Then... I remember... The waking up every two hours, the spine shattering baby cries in the middle of the night, the walking around with at least one area of my top covered in baby spit-up! I realize that... I love it! I love it all! What are the odds that baby number 4 would be a little girl? I LOVE my 3 wild and crazy little boys, but it would be nice to have a little minnie me to dress in little pettiskirts and poofy hair bow's! I guess for now, my sweet little girl dreams will have to be lived out through my beautiful customers sassy little sweeties!

Ok... I have got to be the worst blogger around! I'm not sure exactly what happens when I sit down at my computer. I have all of these interesting & witty things that I want to say and write about. I start typing, and then... Nothing! It's crazy!!!

Anyway, now to the collection "Lola" . I am in LOVE with the angelic quality of this collection. She is layered in pinks, creams, beige, floral, polka dots and lace (my favs).
